Steroids are the medications which are used to treat the inflammation of the airways. As such these are used by the asthma patients to breathe freely. When these are taken in the oral or injected forms, these are termed as “systemic”. Apart from asthma, these are helpful in the treatment of a number of diseases. However, the steroids are responsible for causing a number of side –effects. Certain short-term side effects of consuming are caused if steroids are consumed for short periods. However there is a certain section of people with underlying medical conditions who must not consume these. People with diabetes mellitus may observe an increase in their blood pressure readings. People having high blood pressure may observe an increase in their blood pressure readings. Others suffering from glaucoma may observe an increase in the pressure within their eyes while those with congestive heart failure may retain as well as worsening of their condition.

Thus doctors advise that people with any chronic underlying disease must take care while consuming systemic steroids.
