Occupation Related Asthma


It is possible for a person to have occupational related asthma, and these are usually people that work in fields like construction where there are continuously fumes from chemicals, gases and fibers. These things can cause symptoms that are what is felt by the asthmatic and over time can cause asthma. The symptoms are wheezing, coughing, tightness in the chest and shortness of breath.

These occupations that can be hazardous to the bronchial tubes and lungs are:

    • Carpet layers and people that work in factories that make carpeting, due to the fibers, adhesives and glues that can irritate the lungs and bronchial tubes.

    • Painters that work indoors or that use machines to spray paint, including those who paint cars, due to the mist that can be breathed into the lungs and the dust from sanding prior to painting. The lungs can be irritated even when a mask or breathing apparatus is worn due to the fine particles that will remain in the air and on the clothing.

    • People that work in grain mills or in factory settings where baking is done due to the fine powder that is in the air and breathed in. this also remains on the clothing and in the air long after the person is finished and until the clothing is changed.

    • Factory workers and carpenters that work indoors where saws are in use, sanding and other types of woodcrafts. This is a fine dust that can irritate the lungs and the bronchial tubes.
