CAN EXERCISE CAUSE ASTHMA ATTACKS? |
Well in this context there is a definite ‘yes’. Infact many people encounter asthma attacks only when they exercise or when they run. This is because they inhale cool and dry air consistently. It the weather is warm and moist the asthma will be less bad whereas cold weather have worse asthma symptoms. Doctors and researchers have named it as ‘Exercise Induced Asthma’ which is one of the forms of asthma. Exercise is one of those many reasons which trigger asthma by narrowing the air passages. It also causes abnormal irritability or twitchiness of the air tubes which is an important feature of asthma. This condition is referred to as ’hyperreactivity’ in medical terms. Amount of wheeziness or chest tightness is different for different exercises. Long term strenuous activities like long distance running induces asthma very easily and swimming is least likely to trigger asthma. However running on a treadmill and cycling on indoor cycling bike shows asthma symptoms somewhere between outdoor running and swimming. It takes almost 6 minutes to bring exercise induced asthma. After a few hours you had exercise induced asthma and you repeat the same amount of exercise, it will no longer produce asthma symptoms. The better your asthma control treatment, the less likely you will be troubled by exercise induced asthma. |
