What is Aspirin Sensitive Asthma?

Aspirin-sensitive is a disease which is responsible for affecting around 20% of the adult asthmatic population. It is a severe condition of asthma and the patient requires using a lot of inhaled and oral corticosteroids. The patient has to be hospitalized on numerous occasions and is at a risk because of life-threatening reactions with aspirin/non-steroid anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) ingestion.

In addition to this the patient also has to undergo severe rhinosinusitis and recurrent nasal polyposis and these all contribute to the deterioration of the patient’s condition. It has been found out that a number of respiratory reactions are triggered after aspirin ingestion. Apart from causing asthmatic symptoms, aspirin is also responsible for causing nasal congestion as well as abdominal pains in individuals.

People suffering from asthma are often advised to avoid aspirin. This is to be taken care of in case the person is sensitive to aspirin. There is only one way by which a person can learn if he is sensitive to aspirin. If the patient has experienced a nasty reaction with asthma after consuming such kinds of medications then it means the person is sensitive to this.

Thus, avoiding aspirin is the best protection one can get.
